The Master Plan: My Journey from Life in Prison to a Life of Purpose

"The Master Plan is less of a road map and more of a philosophy that we should all take to heart: We are all better than our worst decision, our sense of justice should honor the redemptive possibilities inherent in every person, and our destinies are truly intertwined."—Wes Moore, author of The Other Wes Moore

Growing up in Washington, DC, Chris Wilson was surrounded by violence and despair. He watched his family and neighborhood shattered by trauma, and he lost his faith. One night when he was seventeen, defending himself, he killed a man. He was sentenced to life in prison with no hope of parole.

But what should have been the end of his story became the beginning. Behind bars, Wilson embarked on a remarkable journey of self-improvement—reading, working out, learning languages, even starting a business. At nineteen, he sat down and wrote a list of all the things he intended to accomplish, and all the steps he'd have to take to get there. He called it his Master Plan. He revised that plan regularly and followed it religiously. Sixteen years later, it led him to an unlikely opportunity—and to a promise he has been working hard to live up to every day since. Harrowing, heartbreaking, and ultimately triumphant, The Master Plan is a memoir for this moment, proving that every person is capable of doing great things.

This is an incredible autobiography! Mr. Chris Wilson’s story was recommended to me by a student I work with who is currently incarcerated. This young man related so much to this story and shared it with me on multiple levels. I have since bought, read and shared this book with other students, professionals, and family members. Mr. Wilson’s book has been the most impactful book I’ve read it more than 5 years. As a Maryland native and University of Baltimore alum, I’m proud to walk on the same campus as this inspiring man! I plan to continue sharing this book with as many people as I can. Mr. Wilson puts a voice and face to the need for criminal justice reform.
Loved the book reading to my students in prison. Hope it helps them set up a master plan for themselves & work it so they don't return. They really like the book too.
I found this book very compelling and educational. Chris has an amazing story against all odds. It brings to light many problems with the criminal justice system and the struggle for those who want to start again once they are released. I highly recommend this book.
This is a terrific book. The determination and focus demonstrated by Chris Wilson is unbelievable. All while in challenging settings of broken homes and communities of his youth, and the prison in his late teen and young adulthood. I was immensely inspired to reach higher in my own life while also start looking closely at the topics of fair and just punishment, treatment of the incarcerated, and redemption, renewal, and hope for good people that society seemingly wants to forget.
Excellent read so far! i haven't been able to put it down since I started. I usually read an hour of it in the morning and 45min before bed... A great perspective shared by Chris that can benefit any man in today’s world.

I loved this product. It has a lot of good important ideas and educational things in this book.
I won this book through a Good Reads giveaway and when it arrived it was immediately bumped to the top of my to read list. Often times I jump around from book to book but "The Master Plan" had me hooked and I struggled to find a stopping place to put it down at the end of the day. Chris's story is eye opening and inspiring and a MUST read for EVERYONE!
This was a great book, I could hardly put it down and it's a perspective that I had never heard from before.
That is Cris for sharing your story. As a young white man growing up in rural mid-west. It’s clear I had none of obstacles of the youth in Baltimore.
